Kenya Policy for Public Participation.

This Wednesday marks the deadline for the submission of memoranda on the Kenya Policy for Public Participation. The Bill, aimed at setting standards for effective public participation and establishing a framework for its management and coordination in Kenya, was tabled in the Senate on April 25th. It was subsequently referred to the Standing Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs, and Human Rights for consideration. Interested members of the public are required to make submissions by then.

The 2024 Annual Meetings For African Development Bank Group (Afdb).

The African Development Bank Group will be hosting the 2024 Annual Meetings scheduled to take place in Nairobi from 27th to 31st May. Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning, Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u, who also serves as the current chair of the Bank Group’s Board of Governors, signed the memorandum on behalf of the Kenya Government as the Host Country. This year’s theme is “Africa’s Transformation, the African Development Bank Group, and the Reform of the Global Financial Architecture.”

The event, while celebrating the AfDB 60th anniversary, aims to propose concrete steps to mobilise resources for Africa’s structural transformation and to discuss the reform of the international financial system for better support of Africa’s development needs. Discussions will include reforming the global financial architecture, the Bank’s “vision at 60”, and strategies for financing Africa’s transformation amidst global financial changes, with a focus on leveraging natural capital for economic productivity.

The AfDB Group will also unveil this year’s African Economic Outlook, a flagship annual report that provides policymakers with comprehensive analysis and forecasts of the economic performance of African countries, as well as key emerging issues relevant to Africa’s development. These include climate change, private sector development, and innovation. 

The event brings together key figures in the field, featuring speakers such as the President of the Bank, Akinwumi Adesina, and Professor Njuguna Ndungu, among others.

Innovative Technologies, Reshaping Microfinance

Bringing together delegates from across the entire microfinance sector in Africa to match with the technology side, this summit will spark discussion on how to potentially collaborate to walk the digital journey. Microfinance Technology Summit will bring together over 500 of the most senior representatives from microfinance institutions, banks, regulators, policy makers and technology companies.

It will attract delegates from microfinance institutions, technology experts, policy makers, regulators as well as different stakeholders in the microfinance sector to discuss the continued discussion about digitisation of microfinance to enhance customer experience.

The primary objective of the submit will be to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among microfinance institutions, financial technology (FinTech) companies, policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders, taking place on the 23rd of May, 2024 in Kigali Rwanda

Yida Kemoli

New Forests, a global investment manager specialising in nature-based assets and strategies, has appointed Yida Kemoli as Managing Director for Africa. Kemoli, who will operate from Nairobi, Kenya, is tasked with driving New Forests’ African strategy, fundraising for forestry initiatives, and delivering investment returns and impact outcomes. 

He brings over 20 years of experience in Eastern Africa’s agriculture, nature-based solutions, infrastructure, and consumer industries. Previously, Kemoli was a senior partner at Phatisa Group, focusing on food and agriculture investments. He will report to Mark Rogers, CEO of New Forests, and join the executive committee.
